Young Artists: Searching for a Special Oasis

Searching for a Special Oasis
Influenced by the watercolors of painter Joy Makon

Artists have a unique way to describe places through their paintings. They can make us feel as though we are standing right there—in the hot sun, by a snowy lake, under a cool, leafy tree. We will look at Joy’s beautiful watercolors and we will discuss how she shares her landscapes with us. If you had to invent an environment, just for you, what would it look like? Would there be flowers everywhere, rocket ships, tall mountains, mysterious caves? What moment in time would you show us? Sunrise, sunset, the middle of the night? Art educators Susan Greenstein and Gail Flanery will be our guides, and we’ll use watercolors and permanent markers to create a special oasis from our imaginations.
