Join us for an afternoon performance by poet Janet Restino, as part of our monthly spoken-word series produced by One Breath Rising. Restino states, “I’ve got my heart, hands and head in many media.” Formally trained as a sculptor, Restino currently records her poems and songs with musicians, in a stream of consciousness mode, with the human figure, nature and peace as subject matter. Janet has performed at Nuyorican Poets Cafe, The Bitter End, and has been funded by Creative Time and Celebrate Brooklyn. Listen to Janet on Soundcloud and YouTube. We look forward to hearing what Janet is up to now, especially as she’s influenced by artist Shanee Epstein’s work currently on exhibit at the gallery.
One Breath Rising at 440 Gallery is a monthly program that is dedicated to providing opportunities for diverse artists working in the African American tradition to collaborate, present and document their work. In conjunction with the art on exhibit at the gallery, OBR’s visiting artists present thought-provoking, challenging, and entertaining mixtures of art meets spoken word and music.
