19th Annual Small Works Show

Curated by Grace Freedman

November 30 - January 5

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, December 2, 4-6 pm

Creativity and innovation duel for space at 440 Gallery's 19th Annual Small Works Show, an winter favorite for gallery followers and art collectors alike. Grace R. Freedman, Ph.D., the juror for this show, thoughtfully curated a collection of 83 works chosen from nearly 575 artists to showcase that size does matter. Artworks range from traditional painting and sculpture to photography and digital works, each measuring no more than 12" in all dimensions.

Several awards will be presented to artists participating in the show, including the Jim Manwell Memorial Award, selected by the artist-members of the gallery; the People's Choice Award, voted on by the gallery's visitors; and the Juror's Choice Award, chosen by Freedman.

“My vision for this show was to select fine artwork that highlighted the many ways that artists approach a small-size format,” explains Freedman. “I was so excited to see the breadth of creativity in this year’s submissions. The artwork represented a wide range of diverse materials and styles – paintings (figurative and abstract), drawings, collage, textile work, sculpture and mixed media. While my job as juror was challenging, this makes for a very robust show of small works that are vibrant, interesting and affordable for art collectors.”
