Brooklyn, NY — 440 Gallery is pleased to present Certainty of Repetition, an exhibition featuring work by Sophie Pickering  and Hyunju Kim that explores the shifting boundary between craft and fine art. Rooted in slow, labor-intensive processes, both artists bring painterly figuration to materials and traditions often associated with abstraction and utility.

Through stitching, sewing, and handmade paper pulp, repetition becomes both process and subject. Memory is embedded in material, while the accumulation of gestures and fibers resists clear beginnings and endings. Grounded in the labor of traditional craft, the works find a quiet sense of continuity in cycles of making, transformation, death, and renewal.
