One Breath Rising: Rich Villar and Sasha Steensen

One Breath Rising’s Second Sunday Poetry Series continues in March with readings from two poets, Rich Villar and Sasha Steensen.

A longtime advocate for the Latino voice in American Letters, Rich Villar is a poet, essayist, educator and performer. His first book, Comprehending Forever (Willow Book, 2014), was a finalist for the International Latino Book Award and he is at work on a second book as well as developing a one-man show. Villar serves as Artistic Director and faculty for La Sopa NYC, a grassroots writing program for artists in underserved communities. He is a frequent performer at iconic Nuyorican Poets Cafe and has curated for La Casita At Lincoln Center Out of Doors, appearing twice as the show’s emcee. 

Sasha Steensen is the author of several collections of poetry including House of Deer (2014), The Method (2008), and A Magic Book (2004) as well as several chapbooks, including Openings: Into Our Vertical Cosmos” that was published as an online chapbook by Essay Press. She teaches Creative Writing and Literature at Colorado State University, and serves as the poetry editor for Colorado Review. She lives in Fort Collins, Colorado with her husband and two daughters, where she tends a garden, a flock of chickens, a bearded dragon, a barn cat, a standard poodle, and two goats.
