Mervyn Taylor is a Trinidad-born poet who divides his time between Brooklyn, New York and his island home. He has taught at Bronx Community College, The New School and in the NYC public school system, and is the author of six books of poetry, including No Back Door (2010), which received the Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement, and his latest, Voices Carry (2017). About his work, the poet Derek Walcott said, “There are many words for what is perhaps the most difficult aspect of good verse: honesty. Mervyn Taylor is an honest poet, and that is high and sufficient praise indeed.” A former member of the infamous Bud Jones Poets, Taylor can be heard on an audio collection, Road Clear, accompanied by renowned bassist David Williams.
