13th Annual Small Works Show
440 Gallery announces the Call for Entries for the 13th annual Small Works Show 2017. This national, juried exhibition celebrates the innovation of artists who create work on a small scale, in a broad range of media and styles. The exhibition will be on display in the 440 Gallery, Park Slope, Brooklyn space from Thursday, December 7, 2017 through Sunday, January 7, 2018.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 AT MIDNIGHT
Juror: Angel Bellaran is one of the original organizers of the Nasty Women Exhibition movement. A socially-engaged artist and activist previously based in Dublin (Ireland) and San Francisco, Bellaran's multidisciplinary practice combines research, collaboration, and curatorial and public engagement to build solidarity amongst artist communities, organizations and movements. She lives in Brooklyn.
Bellaran is an alumnus of the Institute of Art, Design & Technology's MAVis program in Ireland, as well as Mason Gross School of the Arts, the arts conservatory of Rutgers University. Current projects include Sirius Arts Centre's Brian O’Doherty (Patrick Ireland) Restoration Project 2018-19 in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland, and Nasty Woman of the North in Troy, New York, scheduled for October. www.angelbellaran.com
Eligibility: Open to artists who are at least 18 years old at the time of entry and who have a US shipping address. Work must be no more than 12 inches (12”) in any direction including the framing or mounting, or video monitors. The artwork may represent any subject matter. All media—including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, sculpture in any medium, collage, printmaking, photography and digital media—will be considered. Accepted work must be suitably framed, wired and ready for hanging. Works on paper must be framed under plexiglass or glass. Maximum weight of sculpture: 30 pounds. Wall mounted monitors must be provided for videos. These eligibility requirements will be strictly enforced and work will be refused if it does not comply with the requirements.
Acceptance: Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the entered image. Absolutely NO substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit.
Sales: The gallery will take 30% commission on any work sold. Work not for sale must be marked “NFS” in the Price section of the submission form. NO “POR” (price on request) sales.
Entry Fee: The entry fee is $40 for 1 – 3 works, $5 for each additional work up to 6 total.
Entry Requirements: All entries must be submitted electronically. (See below for link to online submission form.) Judging will be done only from JPEGs or web links to videos. No other formats will be accepted; this includes Power Point presentations or any other imaging software. JPEGs must be 72 dpi and at least 600 pixels but not greater that 1200 pixels in either direction. Maximum file size for any individual image is 1 MB. For video works, please upload a still image in the application and email the gallery with a link to the video on youtube or vimeo to view the entry.
JPEG images MUST BE labeled Last Name_FIRST Name_1, 2, 3, etc.
Files which are mislabeled or lack the artist’s name will not be viewed by the juror.
Work must be no more than 12" in any direction including the framing or mounting, or video monitors. This will be strictly enforced. The size given for works should be the framed size. Height must be given before width regardless of whether the work is a vertical or a horizontal. Entry form must be filled out completely. Failure to follow instructions may result in the nullification of your entry. Your payment will serve asyour acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus. Fees are non-refundable.
Delivery of Work:
1. Hand-delivered work will be accepted at the gallery ONLY on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3, 12– 6pm. Packaging may be removed from the gallery at the time of delivery.
2. Shipped work must arrive at the gallery from Tuesday, November 28 – Saturday December 2, in a reusable container. A computer-generated return label for return of work MUST be enclosed. NO EXCEPTIONS. Pre-paid shipping arrangements must be made through UPS or FedEx websites or with other shippers who will pick up work at the gallery. NO U.S. POSTAL SERVICE OR C.O.D. RETURNS. DO NOT SEND CASH, CHECK, STAMPS, OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION FOR RETURN OF WORK.
Return of Work: Hand-delivered work must be picked up on Sunday, January 7 or Monday, January 8, 4-7pm both days. Shipped works will be returned the week of January 2nd. The gallery accepts no responsibility for work not retrieved on pick-up dates and will charge the artist $5.00 a day thereafter for storage. After 30 days the gallery may dispose of the work.
Liability: Great care will be taken with all work, but artists are responsible for insuring their own work if they wish. 440 Gallery will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the gallery. The submission of a work of art to this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth in this prospectus.
