Shanee Epstein
works with spatial give and take, the shifting between the simple and the complex, the narrative and the abstract, and  the geometry of shape with the sensuality of color and texture.  Epstein’s collages use handmade paper and fragments of earlier work.  "I am trusting the sensibility of the process. Learning to be quiet with each piece and allowing it to develop mirrors my own state of mind as I am working, whether it be simple, quiet or complicated."   An artist, an educator and a parent for the past thirty years, Epstein weaves these identities into her creative life. In January 2005, Epstein partnered with Nancy Lunsford to found the 440 Gallery, an artists run exhibition space in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
