JAMES ACEVEDO

James Acevedo
’s work straddles realist figuration and abstraction. The work presents scenes of everyday observations in fragmented, almost dream-like spaces. A self-described city wanderer, his artwork reflects a deeply personal response to the urban experience and explores themes of alienation, loneliness, memory, and aging. The artist readily uses a variety of media from drawing methods to painting on panel to assemblage-like painted constructions. This work triggers connections to American Social Realists such as Edward Hopper, to American Surrealist Joseph Cornell, and to more contemporary artists like Jasper Johns. Filled with people and objects placed in a delicate balance between the ordinary and the mysterious, the real and the imagined, this work presents a rich visual experience.
