Eric Banks's work are executed in a process employing the use of oil paint on canvas, wood, or acrylic paint on paper fused with mediums drawn on, then abraded with sandpaper and/or steel wool, then placed on wood, canvas, or paper. Of primary interest to him in these works is how space functions paradoxically between the inner space of human consciousness, and the outer space of an incomprehensible infinite. Into this arena are interred forms which exist as ideas in states of being and becoming, as presences or appearances. The light both emanates from and is internalized in the forms creating interplay between starkness and fleeting glimpse. Evocations of memory and dream and an attempt to penetrate and unravel the mystery of human consciousness are revealed in the process.
