DORIS RODRIGUEZ

Everyday urban scenes and moments in life are the main subjects of Doris Rodriguez’s work. She is concerned with issues relating to the urban experience, personal and social intimacy, economical and social hierarchy, isolation, identity, and how politics, culture and media affect our perception of ourselves and each other. Painting the subject out of their environment elevates them from the reality in which they live into another context, related to their relationship to the larger world. The narratives that flow through Rodriguez’s work are drawn from her subjects, social and news media, and her personal life experiences. She seeks to portray her subjects with dignity and with the beauty, humanity and power she sees in them.
